For this 1950s house, the homeowners wanted to reorient the front entry and staircase and update the original kitchen to better take advantage of available light. In collaboration with an architect, Katahdin Builders reconfigured the kitchen layout, integrating more space for the family to eat and socialize. The design features floating shelves, which include custom steel work built into the framing, custom handrails for the staircase, and a built-in workspace that separates the stairway and kitchen, while still allowing for light to make its way through to the home’s interior.
